Hyderabad will be looking to extend their positive momentum coming off back to back victories over Kolkata and Chennai and will need some help from their middle order batsmen. Luckily for them, they have the firepower from Abhishek Sharma and Heinrich Klaasen to take advantage of that opportunity at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on April 5.

In addition to their strong performance in the IPL, the return of Pat Cummins from injury has given the Sunrisers an added boost of confidence. The Sunrisers appear to be well prepared for Week 2 of the tournament based on how they have responded to tough situations.

Lucknow Super Giants on the other hand are still on the “uncertain side” of being competitive in this year’s tournament, and will need all the help they can get in order to win this match against the Sunrisers. The loss of Rishabh Pant from the lineup has already started to debate whether he would be better off batting higher in the lineup or continuing to bat in his normal position of No. 7.

As far as how LeFLO has been performing to date, the same can be said for SRH. But if the Sunrisers continue to leverage the new style of play, they could very well see another long afternoon of good cricket while taking full advantage of the grounds and opponents.

In his last match against KKR, he scored 48 runs off 21 balls; while he did not achieve his fifty, he successfully set the tone of the match for SRH before KKR could become settled.In a day and a half, this requirement appeared to be less significant as SRH’s second batter ever (after David Warner) smashed 100 career IPL sixes for their team on Tuesday night. However, Abhishek hasn’t just had a good night. If you recall, during last year’s 2025 league, when SRH chased LSG late in the game, Abhishek scored 59 off 20 balls while his team chased down 206, helping to put the game out of reach for Lucknow. If he gets some pace in his hitting zone, his bat swing is so quick that he makes even good field placements seem cosmetic.

Bowling Resistance And Pressure Point

That’s where Lucknow may have a hard time, though. While they have much more than a powerful batting line-up in Mohammed Shami, Avesh Khan, Anrich Nortje and Mayank Yadav, along with Wanindu Hasaranga as their change-up option, the LSG bowling attack has yet to establish a stable pattern of success. Their ability to keep LSG in check is directly correlated to how well the batting group improves upon established production. Against Delhi, LSG could not make 141 runs seem achievable. Consequently, the bowling unit has to look to the batting group to give it the protection it needs.

Middle Order Impact

Klaasen’s 52 against KKR was an extraordinary performance. It displayed both clean hitting, but also controlled judgment of pace along with maintaining his shape at the crease when wickets fell around him.

Over his last 10 T20 matches he has accumulated 397 Runs at a strike rate of 49.63 and a strike rate of 168.93. This is a perfect batter for the IPL and its Middle order overs.

It is equally, if not more, important in the match Sunrisers Hyderabad V Lucknow Super Giants, that LSG can survive attacks from both Head and Abhishek (the match-up person) and be able to return to the game as long as they continue taking wickets within the first 7 overs.

The catch/part that makes it difficult for LSG to return to form is that Klaasen is the first batter up after the shine has gone, and he can hit the pace off a very good pitch early enough to be able to read a spinning bowler so well that he has created chaos for two overs. The batting side that is impacted positively by this type of player becomes much stronger as they can continue to build on their early momentum.

Even in the loss to RCB, SRH was a serious contender to have actually made it a 200+ run games against RCB as they were able to build-up after the first few overs of the game LSG were able to make adjustments and adjust even better in there next game against KKR in which Klaasen played a key role in putting together the innings. This is what makes them a different type of batting team that has an enforcer type of player in the middle of their batting order.

Aiden Markrams’s (312 runs from 9 matches with an average strike rate of 151.45) recent performance has also been very encouraging, and therefore LSG does not lack shot-makers.

The key is to surround these players with good quality players. In the recent game against Delhi when both Nicholas Pooran and Markram got out early, LSG were unable to regroup and finished with a score of 141 runs. If this type of situation happens with the Sunrisers Hyderabad, they will be even more difficult to handle, as they have shown already in IPL 2026, that they can successfully defend on a target after winning their first game in that tournament.

Rishabh Pant And Early Overs

With regards to Rishabh Pant being at the top of the order, there have been a number of reports published following the game against Delhi, which indicate that he is currently under scrutiny regarding his position in the batting line-up, and for good reason. Pant has always been at his best when he has come in to bat against an older ball and the fielders have been spread out, but at the start of an innings, when he has to play every ball for high risk-reward, it is much more difficult for him to perform well.Marsh’s ownership of the initial six overs will be crucial if LSG is to flip the script against Hyderabad. They cannot afford to have Pooran come in at the end of the innings, trying to bail them out—they need him to build a platform early in the innings. This may seem obvious, however, it shifts the rhythm of the innings dramatically. Unlike some teams with a predominant style of bowler, Hyderabad’s attack is made up of diverse skill sets that allow for great disruption even when conditions are favourable for chasing. For example, Jaydev Unadkat’s skill at changing speeds and Eshan Malinga’s use of different types of deliveries and Harshal Patel’s variations are all potentially disruptive elements during a chase, especially considering Unadkat’s recent streak of 15 wickets in his last 8 matches shows he’s been able to create havoc.

Five Flashpoints

Powerplay, Middle Overs And Top Order

These five flashpoints could define the outcome of this match between SRH and LSG. If SRH is to score a huge number of runs during their innings in the powerplay, LSG needs to prevent this from happening. In their last match, SRH scored 82 runs during a 34 ball opening partnership between Abhishek and Eshan Malinga, which really set the stage for a successful innings. It’s also important to prevent similar opening partnerships from occurring in a match played at an area that has been known to be guaged positively towards strokeplay.

Another key is Klaasen’s batting performance; he’s had a monster middle-overs run in recent weeks, accumulating nearly 400 runs at a strike rate of 168.93 during that time frame. This level of productivity from the middle order is something very few teams have the ability to deliver.

The batting order for Lucknow hasn’t been settled, and there are still questions surrounding Rishabh’s opening position after the team’s recent six-wicket loss to Delhi and a total score of just 141 in their opening game.

The current heated rivalry between SRH and LSG is notable; while LSG has won 4 of the 6 head-to-head matchups between the two teams, SRH has won 2 of the last 3 matches they’ve played together, including the memorable chase from 2025, where Abhishek scored 59 runs off of 20 balls.

Currently, the mood is stronger with SRH than with LSG. The team’s form early in the season has gone win-loss-win, and if you consider their recent overall record of W W W L W W, this has been much more consistent than LSG’s recent overall L L W L L L record.

The call for this match between SRH and Lucknow appears to be straightforward. SRH has a clear vision of how they would like to perform at this particular ground and that is by providing a powerful opening, a well-balanced transition phase, and a dominant closing phase. While LSG appears to still be searching for an identity; therefore, Abhishek Sharma and Klaasen are the keys to success for SRH: Abhishek must give the team maximum runs as quickly as possible, thus giving Klaasen an opportunity to help the team make their way through the critical part of the T20 innings.

In conclusion, my prediction for this match is that Sunrisers Hyderabad will win. If SRH bats first, you can look for the team to be setting a target of more than 200 runs, and they are likely to win by a margin of 12-18 runs. If Hyderabad has to chase, they should have ample enough firepower in the top order to win with 6 wickets remaining. Regardless of what scenario unfolds, what awaits both teams in this match is the opportunity for them to capitalize on Abhishek and Klaasen’s vital contributions while all the time LSG will be looking for an opportunity to catch up with the game already having been won by SRH.
